This post discusses the best ways to have a self-care Sunday to feel rested before the next week begins.

Did you know that the seventh day of the week is meant for Sabbath (from Hebrew shavat, โ€œto restโ€)? While for us Christians, the seventh day might be considered Sunday, for other religions, it’s Saturday or Friday. Whatever the seventh day is for you, that’s the day you practice resting. It’s important for us to do this, because even God rested after he created the Heavens and the Earth. He wants us to rest, so that we might flourish the way we were meant to.

This day of rest can be spent with God, or in other ways that honor Him. You might wake up a little late, grab a cup of coffee and watch a sermon, or you might go see some family members that could use visiting. In this post, I’ll be giving you multiple ways to have a Self Care Sunday, so you can choose the way that best suits you and your needs at the end of the week.

Spend your self care Sunday With God

Spending time with God can look like many different things, so let me go through a list for you to consider.

  • Simply enjoy His work and the beauty He has created. You can do this by viewing landscapes, listening to Worship music, or eating nourishing food.
  • Read His word for most of the day. Meditate on it, pray about it, and ask God to show you what you need to see.
  • Write in a prayer journal! Mmm, writing down prayers is beneficial in more ways than one. It will boost your faith and trust in God when you revisit answered prayers.

If you struggle with keeping a schedule, staying on time, or even just being more aware of your emotions, then this first item will be a great thing to buy to help you along on this journey.

You could benefit from an Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen).

My Apple Watch is one of the BEST gifts I have ever received. My boyfriend got it for me, and at first I wasn’t sure I’d use it that much, but I was wrong. I use it every day for multiple things. It’s scheduled to ask me throughout the day how I’m feeling so I can be more aware of my emotions, it tracks my heart rate (I get palpitations from stress/anxiety), it has a sleep and fitness tracker, crash detection (which I thankfully haven’t needed), it allows me to set timers and alarms, and more. I also use the calculator quite a bit and check it for the weather/temperatures!

Obviously, an Apple Watch isn’t a necessity per say, but it definitely makes life easier in some areas and can help you. If you’ve been pondering whether or not you should get one, THIS is your sign!! Just get it, you won’t regret it. When it’s time for my self care Sunday routine, I mute notifications and only allow certain apps to come through. I track my mood, practice affirmations every hour, and read for the time scheduled.

Self Care Sunday [with god] Essentials:

Starting with the obvious, KJV Holy Bible, you will benefit from a study Bible on your self care Sunday. Regular Bibles are great, of course, but a study Bible can be used for marking, note taking, and more. This one that I’ve listed even has a “Bible in a year” plan for you to follow!

Next up, Pour Out Your Heart Prayer Journal. Oh yes, another thing that isn’t an essential per say, but would definitely benefit you and be useful even when it isn’t self care Sunday! Prayer journals are great ways to connect and grow closer to God, and a great practice is to go back and review all of the prayers He’s answered. This can help with practicing gratitude and being thankful.

These 101 Bible Promises are a wonderful way to start your self care Sunday! It helps put you in a good mood, making the right mindset easier to get into for the day. I highly recommend using these if you don’t already. It’s literally life changing, I promise!
